A new address, fresh off the line - 'This isn't a cost-cutting project'

From Friday's Globe and Mail - September 7, 2007 at 12:00 AM EDT

Next week, the rest will arrive, right down to the kitchen standing in place and the chandelier glittering in the dining room.

Megabuilder Mattamy Homes is constructing a subdivision of houses in Milton, Ont., that are, for the most part, assembled on the factory floor and then transported by truck.

"The chandeliers are hanging, the tiles are grouted, the hardwood is shined up," says Ron Cauchi, president of Mattamy's Stelumar operation.

This is nothing new,  at least not to us.  Our first home purchased in Brossard, Quebec in 1969 was factory built.  The only thing done on site was the foundation.  Sure beats having to wait for good days for construction continuity.

It's unfortunate that it took Ontario so long to catch on.  It is a much better way of ensuring that construction of your home is done on time and probably with fewer deficiencies.

T n T wish you health, wealth and happiness
