Anyone who has turned on the television or read the sports section in the newspaper of late has heard about this gambling ring that Wayne Gretzky was being linked to...   personally, I don't think he had anything to with it, but that's not why I'm posting this here...   I've been watching the olympic coverage on CBC (much as I hate Brian Williams, what a tool!), and they keep going on about what a distraction this is going to present.  The ONLY reason it's a distraction is cause the bloody media keeps bringing up!!!!  They're the only ones talking about it.  The players don't want to, Gretzky has said he's not involved, and there's already been some evidence that came out that supports this, but the press (especially the canadian press) keeps going on and on about this...  Why can't they just let it go?  We've got a hockey team here that wants to win gold, and our own press is throwing this story at them non stop....   Let it go!!!!

I agree they should let it go.

The problem is, everyone involved with the press wants that big headline for the next day... it sells papers and that's the bottom line, whether he is involved or not. "The Great one" is above reproach in my opinion and so I feel that he really had nothing to do with it.

But time will tell as it always does... if he was a  Evil or still is an  Angel

Myself, I just don't think it's in his character to do that....   I'm just glad that the press seems to be talking less about it...   And really, it's completely irrelavent to the olympics...   I wish the press would just drop it entirely.  Why not talk about some of the positive things that our Canadian athletes are doing over there instead?

Well I'm sure the media coverage will die down now that we've all been told neither will be criminally charged.  Angel

Hehe...  Don Cherry was going off about that last night (cause you know, usually he's so mild mannered).  I agree with him though...  Why wait until the Olympics are on?  Come on...  and $20 million??  I realise he was suckered, but hockey is a physical game...  it's the chance you take when you play.  Get a retirement settlement from the league and move on.
